School Readiness Assessment
Starting kindergarten is a big step—for both children and their families. At Flourish, we offer gentle, non-diagnostic School Readiness Assessments designed to support children aged 3.5 to 5 as they prepare to start school. These neuroaffirming assessments are not about labels, diagnoses, or determining who is “ready enough.” Instead, they’re about equipping caregivers, educators, and children with thoughtful insight, tools, and strategies to begin this transition feeling supported, understood, and confident.
What is a School Readiness Assessment?
This is not a diagnostic or psychological evaluation. Instead, our School Readiness Assessment provides a snapshot of a child’s development in areas closely linked to early school success, including:
Pre-academic Skills: Awareness of letters, numbers, fine motor coordination, early literacy and numeracy
Social-Emotional Development: Play skills, comfort with peers, emotional awareness and regulation
Adaptive Functioning: Independence, flexibility, transitions, and daily routines
Communication Skills: Expressive and receptive language, ability to understand and use language socially
Sensory Processing and Regulation: Awareness of sensory preferences, responses, and strategies that support comfort and regulation
We also consider each child’s learning style, temperament, and natural strengths, as well as any areas where early scaffolding or support may be helpful.
Note: This is not an assessment of cognitive ability or IQ, and it is not intended to identify learning differences or developmental diagnoses.
Who is this for?
This assessment is designed for:
Children entering Junior or Senior Kindergarten
Children who may need a little extra support with routines, transitions, or peer play
Families who are wondering, “How can we best support our child’s start to school?”
