Safe and Sound

Understanding Boundaries and Body Cues (Ages 8–12)

Safe & Sound is an eight-week, neuroaffirming group for girls and gender-expansive youth to build confidence, body awareness, and safety skills with compassion, humour, and practical tools they can use every day.

Safe & Sound helps participants understand what it means to feel safe, set boundaries, and speak up in friendships, at school, online, and in the wider world. Through guided discussion, art-based activities, role-plays, and gentle rehearsal, they learn to recognize early warning signs of discomfort, identify safe people and places, and practise assertive communication in ways that honour their unique communication styles.

This group is designed for neurodivergent and sensitive learners (including autistic, ADHD, and anxious participants) who benefit from concrete, visual teaching and small-group connection.

Core Learning Themes:

  • Listening to your body and recognizing “safe,” “tricky,” and “unsafe” feelings

  • Understanding consent and personal boundaries

  • Communicating confidently, saying “no,” and asking for help

  • Navigating friendship and social pressure

  • Building an online safety mindset

  • Creating a personal Safety Plan and identifying trusted supports

Each week includes movement, discussion, and hands-on learning. Parent handouts extend the conversation at home.

Who It Is For:

Children aged 8 to 12 who are bright, caring, and curious, and who may:

  • Struggle with personal boundaries or peer pressure

  • Feel unsure how to assert themselves when uncomfortable

  • Experience anxiety about friendships, safety, or new situations

  • Benefit from clear language and structured support

Our Approach

We take a strengths-based, neuroaffirming, and trauma-informed approach that helps each participant build insight and confidence without shame or fear. The focus is empowerment, not compliance, and supports each participant in learning to trust their internal cues, understand context, and advocate for themselves with confidence.
