Pencil Power Group

Pencil Power is a 6-week small group program designed to help improve handwriting legibility, efficiency, and confidence.

Using the evidence-based Handwriting Without Tears and Printing Like a Pro programs, participants will refine letter formations, increase handwriting speed and endurance, and improve page organization, including letter sizing, spacing, alignment. Through engaging, hands-on, and multi-sensory activities, participants will build confidence in their handwriting abilities while developing skills that support success in the classroom.

This group is designed for children entering grades 3–5 who would like to improve the legibility, efficiency, and overall presentation of their handwriting. The goal is to provide a strengths-based and supportive environment while incorporating the evidence-based Handwriting Without Tears and Printing Like a Pro programs. We aim to:

  • Improve handwriting legibility through refinement of letter formations, sizing, spacing, and alignment.

  • Increase handwriting speed and endurance to support participation in classroom writing tasks.

  • Develop strategies for organizing written work on the page, including maintaining consistent spacing, margins, and overall neatness.

  • Strengthen fine motor skills and pencil control to support efficient and fluent handwriting.

  • Build confidence and independence with written assignments, note-taking, and other school-based tasks.

  • Practice handwriting skills through engaging, hands-on, and multi-sensory activities in a supportive small-group environment that encourages participation and peer learning.
